Hi, I’m Molly and welcome to my world!
I started making my Lake Erie Meditation flatlays after moving with my partner from Seattle to Cleveland in April of 2020. We knew no one and of course nothing was open, so we walked our little neighborhood beach every day just to get out of the house. We found lots of beach treasure - frosted glass (soooo much glass!), bits of pottery, marbles, bones, otoliths, toys, feathers, trinkets - and because ours is an urban beach, lots of trash. Being good neighbors, we started bringing a bucket to pick up the trash we found. Most of it we tossed, but I kept interesting shapes to use for gelatin printing.
One day, I randomly started piecing together some bits and bobs I had out on my work table and created a flatlay. I found the process calmed my neurospicy brain, so I kept making them as a form of meditation. Hence the name.
And here we are. I'm putting these meditations out into the world not just because I think they're cool to look at, but also to create visually interesting compositions that call attention to what ends up in our lakes and waterways.
