I started making flatlays in 2020 when I moved to Cleveland, OH. I walked our little neighborhood beach every day just to get out of the house and found myself picking up not just beach pretties, but bones, oddities, and trash. Most of the trash went into the bin, but I kept interesting shapes and pieces to print with. One day I just started piecing things together on my work table, and created a flatlay. I found myself very relaxed when I was done and realized it was a very meditative process. Hence the name "Meditations."
My Meditations are composed entirely of frosted glass, bits of pottery, wood, marbles, metal, bones, otoliths, toys, feathers, and plastic trash. By including trash alongside natural items and classic beachcombing “treasure”, I aim to create visually interesting compositions that call attention to what ends up in our lakes and waterways.
